 MPA Best Practices for Volunteers
2019- 2020

Hello MPA Families!

Parent presence and participation is important to a child’s educational success. We, at Montessori Peaks Academy, want to support you and your children in your education journey by providing volunteer information and opportunities. MPA has also filled a new position with a not so new to us MPA staff member. Jana Betlach has now taken on the role of Communications Coordinator to help manage volunteer opportunities and communicate with our community.

We want to ensure that our community is aware of the change to our volunteer requirements and procedures to be in line with the district policies. Below you will find the current requirements to become a volunteer, procedures, and our expectations.

Who Can Volunteer?
Anyone that has a connection to a student at MPA. Families are asked to volunteer a total of 50 hours per school year. We know that it’s a lot. We will help provide opportunities for after work hours, with small children and even some weekend hours. Grandparents, and other family members are welcome to volunteer and participate as well.

How to Become a Volunteer
Pick up a form in front of the office window or click on the subpage and there are links to both forms. You need  the minimal background check and to sign the confidentiality agreement. Please turn both in to the front office. The background check will be run within 48 hours. Unless you hear back from us with a question, consider yourself cleared to volunteer. Proceed to schedule what you and the staff member agree upon or contact Jana Betlach for current opportunities.

Volunteer Procedure

  • Volunteer person has arranged with a staff member a volunteer opportunity
  • Volunteer arrives and signs in at the office
  • Front office manager checks the list of cleared volunteers
  • Volunteer receives an MPA badge to wear while in the school so that they are identified to all staff and students that they are safe to be there
  • Volunteer finishes, signs out in the book in the front office and returns the badge

What can volunteers do?

  • There are opportunities all over MPA!
  • Board of Directors- as a board member or part of the strategic committees
  • Classrooms- speak with your child’s teachers
  • Around the school
  • MPA growth committees
  • PTA- Sarah Molder, PTA President
  • Monetary Donation- Amy Nuanes

There is also a “Call Me When You Need Me” link on this site. Filling out this form can help us identify who is available when and if they have a specific skill or something to donate, and enables us to reach out to you. These forms are confidential and used when someone in our school needs a specific task or if we are looking for something you indicated you could provide.

Feel free to ask your students teachers, staff members, the front office, and reach out to Jana Betlach for school wide opportunities. Some examples would be the library to re-shelve books, groundskeeping, laminating, copying, spelling quizzes, planning events, reading aloud to and with students, etc.
